Lord O' Pirates
To die will be an awfully big adventure!
Explore the seas and it's many trials. Do naval battle against the king's navy and sea creatures of legend. Become the Lord O' Pirates!
Lord O' Pirates is an action roguelite that sails a new line between a survivor-like and a traditional action roguelite to create a more engaging and interactive survivor-like experience. Most of your attacks fire automatically, but some will require you to aim, and others are melee in nature and you can use them at will! Controlling your ship is also part of the fun! Choose your starting ship based on their starting attack, max health, turn speed, or max speed and then upgrade all of the above to tweak your ship to handle to your fancy. There's even a drift button for when you need to make quick maneuvers! This game also encourages exploration. There are many treasures to be found!
This is technically a demo for a larger game that we will be releasing on Steam in early 2025. That being said, this is a huge demo containing hours of content! We wanted to release this version on itch to try and build our community a bit more and get more players involved in the development/feedback cycle, so feel free to join our discord if you are interested in following the project further!
------------------------------------------
This game includes:
- 15 Attacks (+5 cursed variants)
- 12 Passive Abilities
- 9 Captains
- 11 Ships
- 5 Passive Upgrades
- 1 Stage
- 0 Secret Stages
------------------------------------------
Starting Tips:
- Taking your time and being careful can help you get further when you haven't mastered controlling your ship.
- A mix of close range, aimed, and auto-targeted attacks generally performs best, focusing too heavily on one ability type usually leaves you without options in various situations.
- Explore! There are cursed chests to be found, and they unlock powerful cursed weapons which GREATLY improve your strength. Just be ready for an epic enemy when you try to pick them up!
- Check the Quests on the main menu for guidance on unlocking specific things and hints on where to find valuable treasures!

About Us and Lord O' Pirates:
We are a team of two and this is our first commercial game. It was originally built for a the Kenney Game Jam in 2022, and we've been working on it ever since. It's been a huge learning process, and in retrospect this may have been a little bit big of a project for where we were in our game dev journey at the time, but nonetheless we've managed to persevere and I've no doubt we will see it to completion and a Steam release. The initial release is planned to have 4 total stages and a deal of new quests, ships, and captains to go with it. How much we continue to add to the game after that depends a lot on its success. I want to be able to keep giving back to a community that supports us, but I also don't want to dwell on a project that just didn't hit nor beat a dead horse. We've lots of other game ideas in the backlog too, and I look forward to building those at some point, and finding some sort of financial success is essential to us being able to fund larger projects in the future. There's only so much two people can do, and that's the struggle we cope with every day haha. Anyways, we appreciate you checking out our game, please throw us a wishlist on Steam and feel free to join our discord to share any feedback or love.

Note: I recommend playing in full screen for the smoothest experience. There are also some minor audio issues, like when loading or scrolling down this page with the game running. These issues are particular to the WebGL version, and since they are so minor, and this isn't going to be a WebGL game in the end, I don't intend to devote resources to smoothing out that part of the experience. It also seems that due to the way itch stores save games, that if I update this game, you will lose your save game. I've tried finding a solution, but none have worked, SO, my plan is to not update this version of the game going forward if I can help it. I have thoroughly tested (as have others) much of this version of the game at this point, so I am hoping there will never be a dire need for it.

Promising! I don't love it (yet), but I definitely don't hate it, either. The VS influence is very, very obvious, but that's not entirely a bad thing. Things that I think would help make it a bit better: slightly better early game ramp, better visual distinction between what is an ally and what is an enemy (especially bad with ally ships vs enemy ships), perhaps synergies between upgrades (ie. increasing your ship speed increases ally speed, increasing ramming increases shark damage, etc.).
Also: If I try to enter a code and I don't have a code, I end up getting softlocked.
Edit: Oh. And Naval Ram is basically a mandatory upgrade. To the point that the game is a LOT harder if you don't have it. Feels pretty iffy? Maybe include it by default, but scale the damage slower, or something..?
